Making an email alias means setting up an e-mail which shares the same mailbox with a different e-mail address for both the incoming as well as the outbound messages. For instance, you can make an address email@example.com and it will be linked to a unique mailbox. Next, you can make an alias firstname.lastname@example.org, that will use the mailbox of sales@ and will not use a mailbox of its own. Every time you check your e-mails, you will notice e-mail messages sent to either one of the two email addresses in one place, which can be more convenient in some cases because you will not need to sign in and out of numerous mailboxes using webmail or set up various addresses inside an email application. This option can be used as a replacement for forwarding messages from one address to a new one if numerous email addresses are mentioned for contact on a web site.
